Graphic novel

Okay so first things first...some of these drawings in this book are horrible. That being said, the poems are very VERY good. The dark nature, death, and just the overall feel of the short stories/poems are amazing. I am starting to like Poe, but hte artists renditions of these stories are not that good. The latest story we read was, the fall of the house of usher, I still have no idea what the hell is going on. Two friends from long ago, one is going crazy, then there is a sister...then of course, BAM zombie.......WTF is with the zombie?!?!?! I was so lost on confused I tried to erase it from my mind. I know Poe is a great auther, but what the hell is a zombie doing in this story? Okay so overall good short stories, horrible artists depicting them.

The Road

So this book was really good. Which does not make any sense since there is very little action, drown out confusing dialog and a very bleek kind of atmosphere throught the story. However for some reason I really liked it.

The boy had it too easy, he found some people that were good right away and they took care of him. Kinda wierd how that just happened to be. Not sure if i like the idea of that, maybe if he had fought for himself for a bit and found a commune to take him in. That would seem a little bit more believable. In the end though it was a great book. Hopefully the movie will be as good

Still Life

So far this is a really good book, I'm starting to like the detective style narrative. However the relationship with Peter and his wife is not interesting to me in the slightest. I hope that is a side plot and does not take over or interact with the main plot of the book. If it does I might have to go back and re-read some parts....Really do not want to do that. As for trying to fiure out who the killer is, I'm thinking the reader is pointed towards Bernard, but I will say it is Jean's niece. I think she fits the budget, and it puts a sight twist at the end. Nothing to obvious, but a little one to suprise the reader.

Interpreter of Maladoies

I think thats how its spelled :P Anyhow so far the short shories are really good. I mean nothing happens in them, but they are not boring yet. The two stories that revolve around marriage were really good. At first it felt like they were building to a major climax, to end with nothing big happens. The key to these stories i think is that they are very short and easy to follow, and since no climax happens, they do not have the length to get boring. But more important then what i think, what do you think?

Fridge full of beer around ireland

well at least that's what it should be. Anyhow the book so far is pretty good, I figured out that reading the story from the authors shoes, or at least thinking it me that's doing this adds to the comedy of whats going on. Most of his stories in themselves make me laugh. The one in the hostel, one I would never sleep in one after watching hostel and hostel part II. But the snoring because I have been know to keep others awake from time to time. So i got a good laugh out of that. But for the most part I am starting to enjoy this book more and more, although its not one of my favorites it is still a really good read.

the perks of being a wallflower

Dear Charlie,

GROW A PAIR OF BALLS!!!!!! I mean come on, your dream girl wants you and you say no?! Why in the world would even think that could in any way be a good idea? Sure she said be yourself, but that doesn't mean you shut the world out, she meant stop putting everybody else in front what you want. I guess what I want you to do is to stop hiding behind your own insecurities, get out and live! say to hell with the world and everyone else in it! Go for what you want and give nothing back. Loose the barriers, forget the old you, and most importantly, and I mean MOST IMPORTANT FOR ANYBODY........live your life to the fullest!

"Today is your last day, are you happy to die?"

Sincerely,

David

blog 3

Okay now that i have internet agian. I can try doing this once more.

a place so foreign was a very interesting book. It didn't really grab my attention but was a lot easier to follow then Olive K. So I did enjoy this one more. For the content of the story, well I was not able to get too involved in the story or the characters, it was like the author did not want me to understand why James was making those disisions. I dont know maybe I'm just crazy but i did feel the characters were very in depth. But thats what i felt, anybody else?

The suffering

I'm sure there are some people who enjoy this book, I don't believe that it won a Pulitzer Prize just because Oprah recomends it. However this book is the closest thing to torture I can think of. The disconnected stories, overflow of characters to follow and then inside the small stories we jump from present to past and back so fast I cannot follow. For the most part this is not a book I would recommend, unless somebody really needed to see how good of a life they have. As for anything else I find this too unbearable to follow and have an extremely hard time to continue reading. Kevin was my hope, he had the chance to turn the story into a murder twist, yet he saved or tried to save the woman from drowing. Again this book is not something I would read on my own time, its complex set of characters and hard to follow timeline leave me hopeless for the ending.

First Blog

Well since I haven't started reading the short stories yet. I figure I can talk about reading in general. Well I don't think I read that fast but if I find a good story, be it a book, article, or just a random poster I get through those pretty fast. Mostly I prefer to read about history, any kind but political is usually a good read. With that said I usually read on war or battles from various times.

My favorite book is the graphic novel The Watchmen. Everytime I read this I find a new metaphor hidden inside the ideas and actions portrayed by the characters. Although the movie sticks to the story pretty well, they had to cut a lot of good scenes that portray underlined ideals. I hear a lot of arguements of why the movie was bad or that it was too hard to follow. One of the general ideas being portrayed is that there are no heroes or villians. This is what draws me to the movie, good and bad are just a perception, nothing more. A hero and a Villian are the exact same person just depends on how you see their actions.
